Is it possible to look at a box of chocolates and not ponder the wisdom of that humble sage, Forrest Gump?
“You never know what you’re gonna get.”

It’s just one reason why chocolate is such a beautiful thing, and what better time to celebrate than February?
After all, this is the unofficial month (OK, maybe month-and-a-half) of sweetness: The season of lovers and sparkly things and the sight of spring on the distant horizon, beautifully personified by such a universal-yet-ever-so-diverse treat that comes in every shape, size and color.

Dark, milk, oozing with gooey caramel; sweetly concealing a delectable maraschino cherry; paired with anything peanut butter; delicately encrusting a mound of fluffy nougat.
Let’s get one thing straight: What you do or don’t do on Valentine’s Day doesn’t matter, because chocolate is for everyone. (And if it’s not, we still have you covered.)

If you’re not sure where to start, skip the grocery store and check out the offerings from a local chocolatier. Duck into a downtown shop and sample the confections local families have been perfecting for generations; beat away the winter blues with a dish of handcrafted ice cream or frozen custard; top off dinner at your favorite local restaurant with an over-the-top dessert drizzled with hot fudge.

Celebrate every sweet moment this month with whatever local treat that suits your fancy, and prepare to be pleasantly surprised: You never know what you’re gonna get.
