Teachers Guide to Journey to a Jewel Box
Teachers Guide to Journey to a Jewel Box
The target audience for this guide is students in grades 3 through 6. Since the activities encourage finding details, organizing notes and thoughts, making inferences, thinking critically, forming opinions and supporting them with evidence from the text, there is not an answer key. There are many opportunities for writing and small or whole group discussions. The selected student worksheets form an individual learning journal for the study of Journey to a Jewel Box. Each item in the table of contents is a clickable link to the student worksheet within the guide. Students can design their own covers inspired by the mosaics or other illustrations.
Additional Information
This guide is aligned to the Ohio Department of Education’s Learning Standards which emphasize critical thinking and problem solving. Most of the student activities in this guide involve ELA and History standards. A curriculum correlation chart for these lessons follows. The chart connects student worksheets to learning standards in reading literature and nonfiction, writing, and history. There are Extension lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) and quick research at the end of the guide.
