The Dawes Arboretum

Peace and beauty are calling your name to the expansive grounds at The Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio. Founded in 1929 by Beman and Bertie Dawes, The Arboretum features 2,000 acres full of botanical spectacles that bring joy to the eyes. Around every twist and turn of Dawes, discover an oasis rooted in history and blooming with plants, trees and wildlife.

The Arboretum features two auto tours, 12 miles of walking trails, plant collections, gardens and natural areas. Guest favorites are the peace of the Japanese Garden, the shimmering water of Dawes Lake, and our marshy Cypress Swamp that celebrates the emergence of salamanders every year with a magical event where guests can help with their conservation.
